David Bultman & Art Baldi – Throws

Some Wish for it... We work for it!

Coach Bultman developed a passion for throwing in 8th grade after setting the junior HS records in both shot and disc. He was 1987 CIF state champion in both shot and discus. He continued throwing in college at UCLA, where he finished 2nd in the Junior Nationals and 4th in the Junior Worlds in 1988. He ended his throwing career early due to back injury, but he could not stay away from the sport entirely. He coached throwers at his former high school in 1992. David became throws coach for SCVAA Warriors in 2003, where he coached for 9 years. He has also coached elite youth post season teams for the last 5 years with a great deal of success. A number of the youth athletes have placed in the top 8 at Junior Olympics under his direction.

David has been throws coach for 2 years at West Ranch. In that time the boys varsity and FS teams have been undefeated in league competition. David has established West Ranch as a throwing powerhouse in Foothill League and the CIF Southern Section. David has a passion for winning and achievement. He has high expectations for the 2013 West Ranch boys and girls throwers.

Dave Cantrell – Pole Vault

I have been involved in track and field both as an athlete and as a coach for 30 years. I began coaching for the Warriors 8 years ago in the shot put as well as helping to develop  a strength program. I have been the pole vault coach at West Ranch for the last 3 years. During this time, I have had multiple athletes break school records and compete successfully at Foothill League meets. My coaching philosophy is to teach life lessons through sports, inspired by my primary coaching mentor, the legendary John Wooden of UCLA.  I work with the student athletes to set personal goals, both on and off the track, and then work hard to achieve and even surpass those goals. This is all done side-by-side with an emphasis on teamwork since teamwork helps all of us perform better. Respect yourself, the people you work with, and the sport and success is all but guaranteed. And every now and then…a little fun goes a long way. Coaching is one of the most rewarding things I do, and I plan on being here at West Ranch for a long time.
